Reefs that are” unreal”

The Gulf features numerous artificial reefs which provide excellent fishing spots. One artificial reef is the Texas Clipper, a former Navy ship which was intentionally sunk to provide a fish habitat.  Located 17 miles off the coast of South Padre Island, in the Gulf of Mexico, this is a popular spot for anglers seeking mahi mahi, black drum, snapper and other species. Numerous oil rigs off the Galveston coast have also been converted into artificial reefs. These rigs are scattered throughout the Gulf and attract a wide variety of marine life.

There are also some near shore structures located in the waters near Galveston Bay, designed to foster marine habitats. Nearshore artificial reefs can be found within a few miles of the coast, making them accessible for smaller boats and novice anglers. Different species of fish like bull redfish, Spanish mackerel, speckled trout, and king mackerel are abundant with some of the best spots near Galveston, Texas.

Chasing Sunshine

Galveston typically enjoys a climate that allows for year-round fishing opportunities. Any time of year is a good time for a half day or full day Galveston fishing trip offshore. The beautiful coastal scenery adds to the overall experience, making the fishing trip more enjoyable.

Weather conditions in Galveston in the summer months are typically hot and humid, with temperatures often exceeding 90°F (32°C) and high humidity levels. The heat can feel more intense due to the moisture in the air. The proximity to the Gulf of Mexico provides cooling sea breezes, especially in the summer, making the heat more bearable.

Winters can also be a wonderful time to cast a line in the the Texas Gulf Coast. Temperatures are mild, with average temperatures ranging from the mid-40s to low 60s°F (about 7-20°C). Freezing temperatures are rare.
