Firehole River
The Firehole River is located entirely within Yellowstone National Park. This fishing wonder is known as the “strangest trout stream on Earth” as it flows through some of the most active geyser basins in Yellowstone, including Old Faithful. Spring and fall are the best seasons. Excellent dry fly fishing opportunities can be found here.
Flat Creek
Flat Creek is a spring-fed stream that flows through the National Elk Refuge, just north of Jackson, Wyoming. It is known for its slow meandering flat landscape, perfect for walk and wade fishing. The creek is only open for fishing from August 1st to October 31st each year. Strict fly and catch/release fishing are enforced.
Green River
The Green River is a major tributary of the Colorado River, originating in the Wind River Range of western Wyoming. The flow of the river ranges from swift mountain streams to slower sections in valleys. Most sections are open year round and offer opportunities for fly fishing (particularly popular in upper sections), spin fishing and bait fishing (where allowed).
New Fork Rivers
The New Fork River is located in western Wyoming, originating at New Fork Lakes in the Wind River Range. The New Fork River is known for challenging fly fishing. Popular techniques include dry fly fishing, nymphing, and streamer fishing. Much of the river runs through private land, so anglers must stay in their boats and not anchor. The most popular season runs from July through September.
Lewis Lake
Lewis Lake is located in the southern part of Yellowstone National Park. Some of the best trout including brown trout and lake trout can be fished here. Fly fishing and spin fishing are the best techniques on this lake. It is accessible in late spring, summer, and fall.
Salt River
Located 45-minutes from Jackson, the Salt River in Wyoming is lesser-known but is an excellent fly fishing destination. Much of the river flows through private property although there are several state-provided access points. Key fishing techniques supported on this river are fly fishing, dry fly fishing, nymphing and streamer fishing.
Jenny Lake
One of only two lakes in Jackson Hole where motorboat access is allowed, Jenny Lake is located in Grand Teton National Park. Kayak and canoe rentals are available at South Jenny Lake docks. Spin fishing, fly fishing, bank fishing are a few of the techniques that are possible on Jenny Lake.
