Vineyards, Wineries and Tastings in Springfield, MO

The United States has many great winery destinations for wine lovers in every corner of the country.

What makes the wineries in Springfield, MO so special?

If you’ve read our post about wineries in Egg Harbor, New Jersey and Egg Harbor, Wisconsin, you’ll recall in that Road Scholar Lesson that the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and Lake Michigan were big contributing factors to the success of the wine culture in those two areas.  But there aren’t any large bodies of water near Springfield MO,  so what makes the rolling hills of the Ozarks such a great place for vineyards and wineries?

Today’s Road Scholar Lesson

This area’s success for great wines stems from 2 things: soil and climate. The area around Springfield has diverse soil types which impacts the flavor profile of the grapes, contributing to unique local wines. Additionally, with a good balance of warm summers and cold winters, the Ozarks are conducive to growing a wide variety of grape types. The seasonal variation allows for a full collection of signature wines and some outstanding wineries in Springfield, Mo.

Pair this article with our Google Map of the area and start planning your full day of sips! Below is just “a taste” of the full listing of Missouri wineries in the area.
